This series of acrylic on canvas paintings was inspired by an interest in creating visual concepts of the ancient historical meanings of fortune-telling and numerology of common playing cards. Each card has a meaning, derived from the suit and number or face appearing on the card. It's quite fascinating, and a challenge to work from concept to visual.

For example, the Queen of Hearts symbolizes the feminine spirit of present and past loved ones. She is the creative muse, the dancer at a young age, but becomes the maternal, guiding spirit as she ages. It is when she reaches maturity that she becomes a beacon of creative energy. The Ten of Diamonds is all about setting out in a new direction, regardless of experience and proven success. Ironically, this was the first card interpreted in the series. The Nine of Diamonds is all about making those "castles in the air" a reality during your journey through life.

The series continues until all 52 are completed, whenever that is. It is thought that each individual is born under a specific card, the birth card. For information on specific card meanings or commissions of your birth card, contact the artist. Many are also available as giclée prints.
